My son has a Wizard of Oz themed day on his last day of term. He wants to be a scarecrow and id like to make the costume myself. Any ideas?

Obviously, start with old raggedy clothes and a floppy hat with straw sewn into the pockets and the sleeves to start (I’d encourage you to "sew" the straw into place to minimize it falling out or shifting). Stuff rags inside the pants, sleeves, and shirt/jacket to give him a "stuffed" appearance. You might want to sew some material between the straw and his skin to minimize scratching of the straw on his bare skin, although the rags may be enough for that. For the face, you could take material that has a burlap bag kind of look to it cut out holes for his eyes, nose, mouth, and ears. Using a magic marker outline those areas and draw in "stitching" for effect. Sew it together so it can be pulled over his head like a hood and either tuck the excess into his clothes or tie a cord/scarf around the excess at his neck and just let it blouse out over his clothes.
Final thought…this could be a VERY warm outfit. What is the temperature like at the school?
